Simon Kirby graduated from the Swinburne Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Media Studies and Literature, in 1988. The following year he began his career as an advertising copywriter by winning Best Victorian Folio at AWARDschool (the Australian Writer and Art Director Guild's copy-writing course) and begun working for major advertising agencies in Melbourne on TV, radio and press advertisements. He has also worked as a press officer and lobbyist for the video games industry. This ultimately led to him being appointed Creative Director of Empire Ridge, one of Australia's leading (and oldest) multimedia production companies, responsible for the creation of numerous CD-ROMs, interactive brochures, on-line kiosks and WWW sites.

Simon has written advertisements and created productions for many of Australia's leading companies including: Myer, Telstra, Ericsson, Hewlett Packard, Mars, McCains Foods, Australian Unity, Bob Jane, Mount Buller, Melbourne Water and Lee Jeans. Fluent in all aspects of print, radio, TV and multimedia production, Simon Kirby is one of the founders of Digital Zoo, a company that develops multimedia and its content.
